Simon Friman joins POJI with a focus on optimal material usage and reducing the environmental impact of construction.

"In some parts of the world it is estimated that materials are only used to 50-60% of their full potential when new buildings are built, which means that almost double the amount of material needed is used. It goes without saying that it is expensive and not good for the climate. That's why it feels fun to start at POJI," says Simon Friman, who is doing his first day at the company today.

Feels important that there is a planet left

He is not an environmental activist, but has stopped flying, rarely drives a car and has been eating an almost entirely vegetarian diet for many years.

"Now that you have a child and are raising the next generation it feels even more important that there is a planet left."

Simon is 33 years old and grew up in Ydre in Östergötland, which is one of Sweden's smallest municipalities. He spends his spare time gladly in nature, perhaps in a kayak, or climbing up the nearest rock face.

Designed the Humanisten in Gothenburg

An uncle who was a fire safety engineer inspired Simon to study technology at upper secondary school and train as an engineer at Chalmers in Gothenburg. After graduating he got a job at Ramboll, where he was among other things involved in designing the extension of "Humanisten", which is part of the University of Gothenburg.

"I learned that reality is more practical than you get the impression of during school. You have to talk all the time, have a dialogue with architects and contractors for the end result to be good on a building project."

People from Värmland are warm and friendly

When Simon and his wife were going to have children they left city life for Karlstad.

"People from Värmland are welcoming, and when you meet people it's always warm and friendly. It's also calmer and less stressful here, and you're closer to nature, which is nice."

Simon will work with building construction at POJI, and has every chance in the world to help house builders reduce their material consumption.

Great to have you with us, Simon!
